Crazy Camp / L
I found this hand stitched crazy quilt from 1887.
It is completely silk taffeta, silk grosgrain, silk moire, silk faille, velvet.. and silk brocade. Some pieces have hand painted floral motifs. There's some hand embroidery of a girl reading a book somewhere on there. Don't ask me about pressing it. It was frustrating to put together because it turns out...135 year old fabric is old. If it had not been stored properly or cared for, it'll crack and split. But then you have to appreciate the beauty and preservation of this textile and accept the unconventional beauty. The more it's worn, the more history is shown.
It's meant to be framed and admired. So why not as a shirt? I don't know. I don't see any sort of limit to a textile. If it shows wear after nearly 150 years, so be it.
It's old and it's still here.
Model is 6’2” and typically wears a Medium.
1/2 Chest: 24 1/2”
Length from HPS: 28 1/2”
Shoulder Seam: 7”
Sleeve Length: 11”
Across Back: 21”
