mari dress.
5 yards of original marimekko “mustasukkainen” print over several panels cc. 1967. I had originally planned to make several shirts using this yardage, but I did not want to break up the stunning original marimekko print. I could go on and on and on about this dress. It was kind of a fun experiment to execute. I call it an experiment because I don’t often make dresses, but this dress is based off of a shirt pattern that I developed junior year in college. Since then, I’ve adapted that pattern to be a jacket and, now, a dress. All 5 yards were used in the dress, thus creating a very full, and striking garment. Will I regret selling this?
Extended collar point and collar stand
Slight hi-Lo hem
Mother of pearl buttons
Fitted across the shoulder, extremely full body
Side seam pockets
Original print that I will never find ever again
Please note that all textiles used are 50 to 125+ years old and may contain irregularities and/or areas of irregular color. All stains and fabric imperfections have been treated by us to the best of our ability and are common with vintage and antique textiles.
1/2 Chest: 24”
Front body length from HPS: 51” (front) 55” (back)
Across Shoulder: 15.5”
