Absolutely stunning deadstock printed cotton chintz c. 1950s. This textile is soft, lightweight, and airy. What is cotton chintz? We need a scratch and sniff type technology to communicate the beauty of this textile because photos just aren’t doing it.

Chintz is a cotton textile that emerged from India in the 16th century, featuring colorful, woodblock-printed, painted, glazed, or stained designs, typically on a pale or plain white cotton background. In this case, the block printing is done in tonal greens throughout.

The silhouette is a departure from the ever popular camp collar shirt, more fitted across the shoulder with a slightly longer sleeve and self cuff. The Italian collar is simply just one continuous piece, rather than a collar with a lapel. I’m not saying you heard it here first, but the Italian collar is back. It’s been lurking quietly in the background since the late 1950s and deserves some show time. A classic silhouette that can formalize the simplest of textiles.

  • Italian collar

  • Relaxed fit

  • 5 natural agoya shell buttons at center front

  • Split side seams

  • Clean finished interior

Please note that all textiles used are 50 to 125+ years old and may contain irregularities and/or areas of irregular color. All stains and fabric imperfections have been treated by us to the best of our ability and are common with vintage and antique textiles.
